Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Basketball Australia (BA) is a diverse and inclusive organization and is committed to providing a safe, fun and inclusive environment for all people, including those of diverse sexualities and genders. Being an inclusive sport not only reflects our values, but it also reflects the diversity of our local communities. BA will continue to work with our community to ensure Basketball is a safe space for all.

BA uses LGBTQ+ to recognize lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning members of the community. The + holds space for expansion of genders and sexual orientation. Our organisation recognises and respects all gender identities and believes everyone has the right to participate in a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment.

LGBTQ+ Inclusion Education

BA is proud to host LGBTQ+ inclusion education resources on our public facing LMS, Basketball Australia Cultural Awareness Training.

LGBTQ+ Resources

BA are members of Pride in Sport. Pride in Sport is a national not-for-profit sporting inclusion program specifically designed to assist sporting organisations of all levels with the inclusion of employees, athletes, coaches, volunteers and spectators with diverse sexualities and genders. BA are currently undertaking their first Pride in Sport Index.

QLife is an Australia-wide telephone and webchat peer support and referral service for LGBTIQ+ people and their loved ones. QLife is a free and anonymous service run by LGBTIQ+ peers for those wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.

LGBTIQA+ people may experience discrimination, harassment and hostility in many aspects of their everyday life – in their places of work and education and when accessing health or other services. We at Lifeline are here to listen and support you, without judgement.

If you do experience bullying or harassment, or need to report an incident, you can do so by contacting the BA Integrity Unit via our reporting site here or through the BA Integrity email at integrity@australia.basketball. All complaints will be taken seriously, managed confidentially, and dealt with in accordance with BA’s National Integrity Framework.

Should you require additional confidential assistance, please contact Dominique Holland (she/her), Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Manager at dominique.holland@australia.basketball.
