She’s led the Opals to Bronze on the biggest stage in the world, won a WNBA championship, and now Sandy Brondello has added another feather to her cap: selection as a head coach for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game.
The Seven Consulting Opals head coach and current New York Liberty leader has been named one of two head coaches for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, set to be held on 19 July in Indianapolis, Indiana.
It marks a full-circle moment for the Opals great, who was one of two Australians to earn All-Star honours in the league’s inaugural All-Star Game in 1999, suiting up alongside Michele Timms at Madison Square Garden.
She will join Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx, rekindling a familiar rivalry from last year’s WNBA Finals, where the Liberty claimed the championship in a thrilling 3–2 series.
In a fitting bit of irony, Brondello will coach the team captained by Lynx star Napheesa Collier, while Reeve takes the reins of the team led by Indiana Fever sensation Caitlin Clark.
Brondello earned the All-Star nod following the Liberty’s 89–79 win over the LA Sparks earlier today, combined with a Phoenix Mercury loss that lifted New York into the league’s top tier at the halfway point of the season.
The victory was also a special one for Brondello, marking her 92nd win with the Liberty and tying her with Bill Laimbeer for the second-most wins in the franchise’s history.
This will be Brondello’s first time coaching in a WNBA All-Star Game, adding yet another accolade to her already decorated career.
