Artist shares the story of their NBL1 First Nation Uniform designs

Players then had an opportunity to speak with the young artists about their work, and their eagerness to represent the strong Indigenous contribution to the game in the region, and wearing the uniforms this weekend.

In the lead-up to the 2024 Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 East presented by National Storage, First Nations Round this Saturday – 6 July – at Belconnen Basketball Stadium, the creative group who developed the design had the opportunity to share the story, meaning and connectivity behind the uniform.

Joined by Basketball ACT’s Participation Manager, Elijah Duke, members of the Indigenous Game Development Program (IGDP) introduced the uniform, explained the story and meaning, and made presentations to both the Canberra Gunners and Canberra Nationals, at their respective trainings this week.

Players then had an opportunity to speak with the young artists about their work, and their eagerness to represent the strong Indigenous contribution to the game in the region, and wearing the uniforms this weekend.

Basketball ACT would like to thank our IGDP participants, Burbirra Group and Athlead for their support in conceptualising, designing, sponsoring and supplying our 2024 NBL1 First Nations Round uniforms, and our Canberra Gunners and Canberra Nationals for representing our association, teams and community on-court.
