One of the most dominant players of her era, Suzy Batkovic played, and enjoyed success, all over the world. The 193cm forward/centre from Newcastle was a key member of three-medal winning campaigns with the Australian Opals, winning silver in both Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008) then bronze in London in 2012.

A two-time World Cup representative (2002, 2010), she was a member of the Australian team which claimed a bronze medal in 2002 in China.

Batkovic’s success in, and impact on, the WNBL was so profound that the league named its Most Valuable Player award after her upon her retirement at the end of season 2018-19.

She won a record-breaking six league MVP’s between 2012 and 2018 while playing for Adelaide Lightning then the Townsville Fire. During a 16-season career which featured 346 games, Batkovic was part of five championships beginning with the famous AIS title in 1998-99. She’d go on to win another four trophies both with Sydney and the Fire.

She earned selection in the WNBL’s All Star Five on seven occasions and remains the league’s all-time scorer with 5843 points. Batkovic also played extensively throughout Europe where she won four championships and a Euro League title during seven seasons abroad.

Selected by Seattle Storm with Pick 22 in the 2003 draft, Batkovic played two stints in the WNBA, the first in 2005 and second in 2009.
