Gems maintain perfect start in Malaysia following comfortable win over Korea

Australia top Group A as the knockout stage awaits.

The Gems made it three wins from three at the FIBA U18 Asia Cup, putting together a blistering opening half to take control against Korea.

Australia raced out of the blocks and didn’t look back, with a complete team performance leading the Gems to the top of Group A.

Q1: AUS 34 - 9 KOR

Australia got straight to business, immediately finding their offensive rhythm as they jumped out to an early lead over Korea.

Madison Ryan was unstoppable early, dropping 15 points in the opening quarter, while Olivia Olechnowicz chipped in with 10 as Australia built a 25-point lead.

Q2: AUS 57 - 19 KOR

Isabel Smith took over the scoring load in the second as Australia continued to find ways through the Korean defence.

The Gems added another 23 points before the main break, while their pressure at the other end kept Korea to just 10 for the quarter.

Ryan, Olechnowicz and Smith had all reached double figures by half-time.

Q3: AUS 75 - 35 KOR

Australia were flexing their point of difference in the third quarter, that being their dominance on the boards.

A +22 advantage on the glass after three quarters gave the Gems plenty of extra possessions as the margin stretched to 40 points.

Q4: AUS 92 - 56 KOR

The Gems worked through their rotations throughout the fourth quarter, with the game completely under control.

Richardson took charge of the group in the closing minutes as the Gems managed their sizeable advantage through to the final siren.

Australia will prepare for the knockout stages, with action returning on Thursday 7th October.
