For one of the Opals' most experienced campaigners, life's next adventure is about to begin.
Three-time Olympian Cayla George has announced she is expecting a baby, sharing the happy news with her followers on Instagram yesterday.
"It's a massive blessing for my family and we are all super excited… when I'm not nauseous!” she said.
"It's been a pretty unexpected journey. My year was looking a little different, so trying to recalibrate my brain to embrace this incredible change!"
George and husband Kailou are already proud parents to three-year-old daughter Pearl, who has grown up courtside and around the Opals, arriving into the world shortly after Australia's bronze-medal finish at the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup in Sydney.
"Pearl has Aunties from all over the world and that will be the same for this baby. One of the biggest blessings about this game is the people you connect with along the journey.
"Since sharing the news, I have felt so loved, and my family feels it too. I can't wait to welcome this baby into the Opals family."
Following the announcement, George became a late withdrawal from the upcoming Opals v China series in Melbourne as she and her family embrace this exciting new chapter.
Basketball Australia and the Opals congratulate Cayla, Kailou and Pearl on this wonderful news and wish the Francis/George family every happiness.
