Wombats set to open 2026 campaign

The Australian Wombats women’s team will begin their 2026 international campaign this weekend in Great Britain, competing at an invitational tournament at Lilleshall from 9–11 January as a key lead-in to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.

The Australian Wombats women’s team will open their 2026 international schedule in Great Britain this weekend, competing at a 3x3 invitational tournament at Lilleshall National Sports & Conferencing Centre from 9–11 January, marking the group’s first international outing of the year.

Australia will be represented by Maryanne Latu, Georgia Munro-Cook, Taishar Ovens and Victoria Simpson.

Competition gets underway on Saturday 10 January from 10:00am local time, with Australia facing England, Wales and Northern Ireland during pool play. Finals are scheduled for Sunday afternoon local time, which falls in the early hours of Monday morning (AEDT).

While classified as a friendly invitational, the event provides an important preparation opportunity within the 2026 international calendar, supporting the program as it builds toward the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.

The tour follows the team’s most recent international campaign at the Commonwealth Games qualifying event in Thailand in November 2025, where Australia secured a best-of-three series win against India.

Please note that this event will not be live streamed, however scores and updates will be shared via Basketball Australia platforms where available.
