JEREMY SYNOT LEADS A NEW WAVE THROUGH THE WOMEN’S WHEELCHAIR PATHWAY CAMP
In his first national campaign as Head Coach of the Under-25 Devils, Jeremy Synot arrived at the Centre of Excellence with a clear focus. The aim for the week was simple: return to the fundamentals and build the habits that matter.
Synot stepped into the head role at national level for the first time and guided one of the broadest cohorts the women’s pathway had seen.
Under-25 Devils, senior newcomers and members of the Gliders squad, including Victoria Thompson, Ebony Stevenson and Katelinn Gunn, came together for a week designed to connect emerging talent with elite expectations and daily standards.
“This week we've had a really good mix of athletes here,” Synot said.
“There’s no pecking order and they’re a really happy, cohesive group. Everyone is here to improve, and they’re supporting each other beautifully on and off the court.”
“Our least experienced athlete has played for only three or four months and others have been playing three or four years, but what ties them all together is their collective willingness to learn.”
Synot has spent the early days of the camp stripping the game back to core skills before building toward more tactical outcomes.
“Sometimes that feels basic, but this group has embraced it. Their attention to detail, their willingness to develop good, repeatable habits, it’s really been fantastic to see.”
As the camp shifts into game play, the emphasis remains on doing the small things well.
“Right now, the outcome isn’t important,” he said.
“We want to see the technical and tactical work we’ve covered show up in games. If the process is right, the scoreboard takes care of itself.”
For the under-25 athletes, this week effectively marks the beginning of a new cycle for the Devils.
“You could call this a soft launch,” Synot said.
“Junior National Championships in April next year will be a major selection opportunity as we look towards our 2027 World Championship campaign.”
“But we need to build towards it deliberately,” he added.
“I’m very fortunate, there’s real promise here.”
