Victorian athlete Will Hamilton is set to join the men’s Centre of Excellence program in Canberra following a dominant showcase at the FIBA U16 Asia Cup in September.
The Traralgon product has already built connections with the CoE cohort, having represented and claimed gold with Australia’s junior national teams at both the 2024 U15 Oceania Cup and the 2025 U16 Asia Cup.
Bursting onto the junior national scene in 2024, Hamilton made a name for himself in the U15 Oceania Cup, being named tournament MVP with a stat line of 18.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 2.8 APG.
The 2025 U16 Asia Cup in Mongolia was a similar story, with Hamilton proving pivotal in the Crocs’ pursuit of gold.
His terrific campaign ultimately led to Hamilton being named in the tournament’s All-Star Five alongside CoE teammate Luke Paul.
The move to the AIS provides Hamilton an opportunity to further progress his game, having already proven that he is one of the brightest talents rising through the ranks in the country.
Robbie McKinlay, Head Coach of the men’s program, provided insights into the addition.
“Will has impacted two junior national teams in the last 12 months, winning gold at the Oceania and Asia Cup level, along with winning gold at the Under 18 Nationals level,” said McKinlay.
“We are excited to have him join us at the CoE to further his development and build on the outstanding work of his coaches in Traralgon and Basketball Victoria.”
Hamilton has already transferred to Canberra, commencing his enrolment in the program.
