Boomerangs Claim Gold in Men's 5x5 Virtus Basketball World Championships

The Australian Boomerangs have completed a golden sweep at the 2025 Virtus World Championships.

The Australian Boomerangs have cemented their place as a global force in inclusive sport, claiming gold in the men’s 5x5 basketball competition at the 2025 Virtus World Championships in Portugal.

Capping off an undefeated run, the Boomerangs delivered a commanding 114–85 victory over Portugal in the gold medal match to secure the championship title.

Their finals performance followed an emphatic 109–37 win over Spain in the semi-final, reinforcing the Boomerangs’ status as the team to beat.

The 5x5 gold comes just days after the Boomerangs ‘Green’ team also won the 3x3 world title, marking a clean sweep for the Australian men’s team and one of the most successful campaigns in their history.

Three Boomerangs were recognised in the tournament’s All Star 5 for their outstanding performances across the week, with Jack Innella, Dylan Cheyne, and Jake De La Motte all earning selection.

Innella, who had earlier been named MVP of the 3x3 tournament, continued his standout form in the 5x5 competition.
