Wombats Set to Represent at IWBF 3x3 Asia Oceania Cup

The teams selected to represent the Australian Wombats at the 2025 IWBF 3x3 Asia Oceania Cup.

Basketball Australia is pleased to announce the teams selected to represent the Australian Wombats at the 2025 IWBF 3x3 Asia Oceania Cup, to be held from 19–23 June in Hangzhou, China.

Australia will be represented by three teams — two women’s teams and one men’s team.

The tournament format allows multiple teams per country, giving Australia an opportunity to develop young athletes while leaning on experienced leaders.

“It’s important to us for our women to get more international basketball games, to give younger athletes a chance to play on the world stage and allow more experienced athletes to come in and lead,” said Pike.

Among the women’s selections is Georgia Inglis, who is returning to international competition after the birth of her first child.

“It’s very exciting to see her return. She’s one of the best point guards in Australia, and it’s great to have her back playing.”

The women’s squads feature a strong mix of talent from across the country, including up-and-coming low pointer Katelin Gunn, who recently helped the first South Australian team claim its first Kevin Coombs Cup title.

In wheelchair basketball, players are classified on a point scale from 1.0 to 4.5 based on their functional ability, with lower-point players having a higher degree of impairment. These players are integral to team balance and strategy, and contribute with sharp decision-making, speed, and strong court vision.

“It’s great to see the two low-pointers out of NSW hit the stage, and to have Breanna, as a tall low-point player, able to utilise her skills and height at that level.

“Maryanne and Jess are both very experienced, and I’m looking forward to seeing them show their leadership. Izzy has been around the Gliders program for a long time, and I’m excited to watch her be that key player who can lead from the front.”

On the men’s side, Paralympian and 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Luke Pople will anchor a young and dynamic team.

“Luke is probably our most experienced 3x3 wheelchair player in Australia. He won a gold medal at the last Commonwealth Games, so I’m really looking forward to seeing step up and show his leadership,” said Pike.

“The rest of the line-up is relatively young so I’m really keen to give them a chance to show the rest of the world that they’re good quality basketballers who can compete with the best in our region."

With back-to-back games across two action-packed days, the Australian teams will take on a diverse mix of nations from across the Asian-Pacific region including Cambodia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Malaysia, China, Japan, Iran, Thailand, and the Philippines.

“It’s a big few days, but it’s exciting. You don’t really get a chance to sit back and dwell - you’ve got to move straight on to the next game and learn as you go. It’s great for the players to be part of something so quick and fast. You’ve got to adapt, learn, and keep moving forward,” Pike added.
