Boomerangs continue preparations for VIRTUS World Championships

Boomerangs squad to feature a mix of experienced players and fresh faces.

The Australian Boomerangs held their training camp over the weekend in preparation for the VIRTUS World Basketball Championships to be held in Kazakhstan later this year.

The squad featured a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, most of whom were identified in the training squad from 2024.

Following the 2023 Virtus Global Games, several players retired from the program, leaving behind a legacy for the next generation to follow.

Among the retirees, Brad Kinross, who represented Australia in six tournaments from 2013 to 2023, while Justin Koenig proudly wore the national colours across five campaigns from 2015 to 2023.

The Australian Institute of Sport hosted a pack of the next wave, with a Boomerangs camp bringing together stars from the 2025 Ivor Burge Championships.

Coach Ryan Holloway is excited for the potential of the group.

“Our squad is young, athletic, and has the right attitude, which is exactly what we need to build a strong Australian team,” said Holloway.

“With a blend of emerging talent and experienced leaders to guide them, we have a group that is both competitive and resilient, ready for the challenges ahead.”
