Gangurrus locked in for FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup

Gangurrus squads announced to compete at 2025 FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup in Bangkok, Thailand.

Basketball Australia is pleased to announce the Gangurrus teams set to compete at the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup from 14 - 16 March at CentralWorld Square in Bangkok, Thailand.

A historic launch of FIBA 3x3 newest competition — the FIBA 3x3 Sponsor | Red Bull Champions Cup will feature the world's top 16 3x3 basketball teams, including continental cup winners, the highest-ranked teams in the FIBA 3x3 basketball rankings, Olympic gold medallists and the host nation, from a total of 12 countries.

Representing Australia in the Men’s division are Josh Davey and Cairns Taipans trio Alex Higgins-Titsha, Jonah Antonio, and Dillon Stith.

The Women’s team will feature Perth Lynx duo Anneli Maley, Miela Sowah, alongside new faces Isabelle Bourne, and Hannah Hank.

2024 Paris Olympian Anneli Maley is thrilled to see the Gangurrus expanding their talent pool with Bourne and Hank joining the mix.

“Australian basketball has so much talent and I think it embracing it and inviting people into the 3x3 culture and letting them see what it's about and bringing their talents to the Gangurrus, will only be a good thing.

“I’m super excited; these girls are super talented basketball players, and I can't wait to see what they bring to the Gangurrus.

“Miela is one of the most talented players going around at the moment and she is so much fun to play with in a 5x5 format, and I can't wait to play with her in the 3x3 game, and I'm also looking forward to playing with both Hannah Hank and Issie Bourne—they're really tough to guard, so I'm excited to have them on my team for once.”

Both teams will compete in Pool B, with group play beginning on 14 March.

The Women’s team will open their campaign against Spain (8:40 p.m. AEDT). They’ll then face host nation Thailand (8:00 p.m. AEDT) and France (10:35 p.m. AEDT) on 15 March.

The Men’s team will kick off their run against France (9:50 p.m. AEDT). They’ll return to the court on 15 March, facing Thailand (8:50 p.m. AEDT), followed by a clash with the United States (11:50 p.m. AEDT) to wrap up the group stage.

2024 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup champion Josh Davey said that while the competition will be tough, the team is ready to rise to the challenge ahead.

“The teams we will face in Pool B have played together for a while. They are well-drilled and have extensive experience. In order for us to be successful, we will need to focus on executing plays and setting the tone physically.

“We are an athletic team that makes for an exciting style of play and versatility on defence. Each player has different strengths which we will need to call upon at different moments in this tournament.”

The top two teams from the two pools advance straight to the semifinals on 16 March.
