Basketball Australia have announced a 24-player roster for the U19 Gems in preparation for the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.
The camp will be hosted at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra from 31 March – 3 April.
Head Coach Renae Garlepp has been a part of the development and journey with the group and looks forward to setting the foundations for Czechia in July.
“I am excited to see this cohort come together at camp as we look to select a tough and competitive group,” said Garlepp.
“The camp will be a great opportunity to see who can handle the physicality, compete every possession, and push each other to grow as a team,”
“Many of these players have played together before, which helps with chemistry. Our focus will be on developing a style that allows us to compete at the highest level while maximising this groups’ strengths.”
The U19 World Cup continues to attract the attention of the world with the standard of talent on display.
The USA have won the last three tournaments with Australia challenging in 2019 & 2021 but ultimately finishing with silver.
Historically, Australia’s women have been one of the strongest teams at the U19 World Cup tournament since it was created in 1985. The Gems are the only team from the Oceania / Asia region to be crowned champions, doing so in 1993 where Michelle Brogan was crowned MVP.
