They helped guide Australia to Olympic and World Cup medals and now Lauren Jackson and Kristi Harrower are back on court together in a different kind of way.
The basketball legends, who were part of Opals World Cup gold (2006), Olympic silver (2000, 2004, 2008) and bronze (2012) medal campaigns, are reuniting to lead a She Hoops Holiday Camp at Keilor Basketball Association.
The Monday January 15 event will feature an under-10 and under-12 session from 1pm to 3pm followed by a 3.30pm to 5.30pm session for under-14, under-16 and under-18s girls.
Jackson, Head of Basketball Australia’s Women and Girls, says budding basketballers will get the chance to tap into the incredible IQ of one of the country’s finest ever point guards.
“Kristi was an incredible leader for the Opals and the people on teams who have got the best out of me were guards who read the game really well, understood momentum and where the ball had to go,” she explains.
“I just trusted her and knew the ball was in capable hands, she was going to call the right play and knew whatever she did she was thinking through the game and the older I’ve gotten the more I’ve appreciated it in a leader and a point guard.
“We’ve played for Australia, had our wonderful careers and our kids so to come back to the sport and be able to teach and coach this generation and share with them what it really takes is special.
“I’m so excited She Hoops is able to have Kristi running this Holiday Camp, the kids are in for a big treat with her.”
Harrower has began her coaching journey and is in the second season in her role as Melbourne Boomers WNBL assistant coach and will head coach Keilor in NBL1 South in 2024.
She also served as an Opals assistant coach at last year’s FIBA Asia Cup in Sydney.
