Unable to consolidate their victory against Japan, the Australian Devils were defeated 49-40 by Great Britain in their second game of the IWBF U25 World Championships.
An intense start to the match saw Australia trail early as Great Britain’s pressure on the ball opened up a four-point advantage by quarter-time.
A rested Amber Merritt regained the ascendancy for the Devils as they began the second term on a 6-0 run before keeping their opponents scoreless for the first 5:30 of the quarter.
Following a time-out, Great Britain regained their composure and finished the half strongly to own an eight-point lead at the main break. The margin again see-sawed with Georgia Munro-Cook and Georgia Inglis helping Australia to a dominant 20-9 third quarter.
Their lead was short-lived though with Amy Conway taking control of the contest in the final quarter as Great Britain ran out nine-point victors.
For the second straight game, Merritt top-scored for Australia with 28 points while Munro-Cook chimed in with eight. The Devils will look to bounce back against Germany on Thursday at 15:30AEST.
